Four armed men on two bikes allegedly waylaid a moving cab and looted the two passengers at gunpoint inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel in the national capital on Saturday. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. The footage of the incident has surfaced all over the internet. However, no arrests have been done yet.

Reportedly, the passengers were employees of a private firm and they were on their to Gurgaon to complete a business deal.

The day-light robbery happened between 3pm to 4pm. After the incident, one of the two victims lodged a written complaint to Tilak Marg police station in the evening.

How did the robbers execute this plan?

The viral CCTV footage showed around four men waylaying a cab inside Delhi’s Pragati Maidan tunnel. Two of them get down from their bikes and charge towards the car. One threatens the occupants at gunpoint, while the other one snatches a bag from the passenger seat on the back seat. They then fled away from the scene. 

According to the police officials, the accused robbers looted nearly Rs 2 lakh. The complaint was registered by Patel Sajan Kumar who works as a delivery agent with a firm in Chandani Chowk. He was with his friend Jigar Patel at the time of the incident. Both were taking the bag to Gurgaon.

Case lodged based on Kumar’s complaint 

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC (Indian Penal Code). 

The Delhi Police are scanning footage from the CCTV cameras in the tunnel to search for clues. An official said, “We are probing whether the men were following the duo for a long time.”

“We have formed multiple teams to crack the case. Some suspects have been identified. So far, no one has been arrested in the case,” an officer said.

CM Kejriwal demands LG’s resignation 

Taking notes from the day-light incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has slammed and criticised the LG on security concerns and demanded his resignation.

Taking it to Twitter, the chief minister said, “LG shud resign. Make way for someone who can provide safety n security to the people of Delhi. If Central govt is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show u how to make a city safe for its citizens.”
