Mumbai’s BMC’s statement on the issue

The BMC gave a detailed explanation about how the incident unfolded in an interview where they said that the compound wall of the ground plus two-storeyed building collapsed on two rooms of the chawl located below the building. The deceased was in one of the rooms when the wall collapsed over the AC sheet rooftop of the rooms.

“The occupant of the other room escaped unhurt. The injured Vaishnavi Prajapati was moved to Bhaba hospital immediately, where she was declared brought dead,” said a BMC official.

“We have asked the occupants of the five rooms, including the two rooms, located under the ground plus two-storeyed building to vacate the rooms as a precautionary measure. Some citizens residing nearby complained that some stones had fallen on them too, but no injuries were reported. There is no damage to the ground plus two-storeyed building too. However, we will be inspecting the place again in the morning and deciding on further course of action,” the BMC official added.
