Colonel Nectar Sanjenbaum, a retired army officer who played a key role in India’s surgical strikes in Myanmar in 2015, will now help the Manipur government tackle the unrest in the state, which has been raging for four months due to intercommunal violence.

Cabinet’s decision

The Manipur Government has appointed Colonel Nectar Sanjenbaum to the position of Senior Superintendent of the Manipur Police Department. On August 24, an order was issued that made it clear that Nectar Sangenbaum was going to hold the position of senior superintendent for a period of five years. The appointment happens as the N Biren Singh administration and the central government make every effort to stop violent incidents in the Northeastern state.

Honored hero

Nectar Sanjenbaum has served in the 21 Para (Special Forces) and received the country’s second and third highest military decorations, the Kirti Chakra and the Shaurya Chakra. Nectar Sanjenbaum Ditta is known for writing strategies to improve any situation with his bold decisions. The appointment was made after the cabinet decision of June 12, according to an order issued on August 28 by Manipur’s joint secretary.

At least 12 people have died and more than 30 have been injured in firing and explosion incidents over the past five days in the border regions between Kuki-dominated valleys and Meitie-dominated hills. More than 200 people have died so far. About 50,000 people left their homes and moved to government camps.
