Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, after inspecting the site of the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse, expressed optimism about reaching the trapped victims within the next two to two-and-a-half days.
Gadkari conveyed to reporters at the tunnel site that if the auger machine performs effectively, rescue operations are anticipated to make significant progress in the coming days. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accompanied the Union minister during the inspection.
Gadkari highlighted the involvement of private tunnel experts associated with various organisations in the region, indicating a collaborative effort to enhance the ongoing rescue operations.
Efforts are underway to supply trapped workers with essential resources such as food, medicine, and oxygen through pipes. An additional supply line is also being worked on to ensure contingency plans are in place.
Describing the conditions inside the tunnel, Gadkari stated that there is sufficient light and space, allowing the trapped individuals to move around. Communication lines remain active, and the morale of the victims is reportedly high.
Gadkari acknowledged the challenging geology and terrain of the Himalayas, emphasizing the war-footing efforts dedicated to rescuing the workers. The rescue operations have now entered the eighth day.
The Union Minister urged against premature conclusions regarding the incident, emphasising the ongoing detailed investigation. He requested cooperation from the public to maintain the high morale of the victims.
Gadkari assured that a comprehensive examination is being conducted to determine the technical reasons behind the tunnel collapse. He acknowledged that finding these reasons would take time but affirmed his sincere commitment to the investigation.
The under-construction tunnel, situated between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway, collapsed in the early hours of November 12.
