Tragedy has struck Uttarakhand as an SUV accident in Pithoragarh has left nine people dead.

The Bolero SUV, which was carrying 11 people travelling to the Kokila Devi temple in Hokra, toppled into a ditch. While nine people have been confirmed dead, two people are still seriously injured. The victims were devotees from the Sama village in the Bageshwar district.

Subhead: Rescue mission underway as police recover victims

The SUV toppled into a 600-metre deep ditch. Nilesh Anand Bharne. IG Kumaon, said that, “Out of 11 people travelling in the Bolero car, 9 died. Two others are also badly injured and in critical condition.”

Anil Kumar Shukla, subdivisional magistrate Didihat, added that rescue mission was promptly dispatched. “Teams of SDRF and local revenue officers have been sent to the accident spot,” he said.

Chief Minister offers condolences to victims

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, offered his condolences to the victims of the terrible tragedy.

His post a message in Hindi on Twitter that read, “Very sad news has been received about the casualties of many people due to the accident of a vehicle coming from Shama in Bageshwar towards Nachni in Pithoragarh. A rescue team has been dispatched to the spot for relief and rescue work. I pray to God to give peace to the departed souls. Om Shanti.”
