Rescue and relief efforts are already underway on a war footing after almost 70 hours of rescue operation at the Silkyara Tunnel collapse, trapping 40 labourers, as per officials.

Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi, Chief Development Officer Gaurav Kumar, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Ruhela, Chief Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Commandant Manikant Mishra, and numerous other officers are on the scene and participating in the rescue effort.

According to the sources, the officials are hopeful that they will be able to take out the stranded labourers out today.

How 3-feet long pipe will help in rescue?

While speaking to media persons, DM Ruhela said that a team of technical experts and engineers is at the incident site to start the process of pipe pushing, the process to form a passage by installing a 900 mm pipe inside the tunnel to help the trapped workers come out, who officials say are safe and being provided with oxygen, water, food packets and medicines through tubes.

Eight mild steel pipes with a diameter of 900 millimetres (nearly three feet) and five pipes with a diameter of 800 millimetres, both of which are six metres long, have been carried to the evacuation location. The idea is to use drilling equipment to force through both pipelines, one after the other, into the debris in order to free the workers and establish an escape route.
