There has been no relief to the people of Uttarakhand since the monsoon has begun. The incessant rains in Uttarakhand have destroyed several buildings and caused landslides which breached the national highways to Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri shrines. According to the information, the havoc has left three people dead and five others missing.
In addition to this, a private defence training academy on the outskirts of Dehradun has also collapsed amid the incessant rains. A part of road connecting Dehradun and Rishikesh has also swept away.
On Monday, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami review the situation and decided to suspend the Char Dham yatra for next two days.
Himanshu Khurana, DM Chamoli inquired from the Disaster Control Room about the damage caused by incessant rains in the district and the current situation. According to the information, Khurana has directed all the SDMs that immediate relief should be provided to the places where there has been damage due to rain. In addition to this, he has also instructed to stop the yatra immediately in view of the Badrinath highway being obstructed at many places and the possible danger of landslides on the highway and to keep the pilgrims at safe places.
Rise in the water level of River Ganga in Rishikesh has also witnessed.
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued ‘Red’ alert for several districts of Uttarakhand. The official tweet reads, “In the last 24 hours, intense rainfall has drenched various parts of India. Rishikesh in Uttarakhand takes the lead with a whopping 42.00 cm of rain, followed by Kangra, Himachal Pradesh at 27.00 cm. Stay safe and stay informed!”
