In Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, a 23-year-old Muslim man was paraded by the locals for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor girl. The accused walked through the neighbourhood with a blackened face on Friday, police said.The news of the alleged rape came to light after the video went viral on social media, showing local residents parading the accused with a blackened and partially shaved head at a market in Badiyargarh under Kirti Nagar block.Uttarakhand police take actionThe police have taken action against the accused and have registered a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).“We have registered an FIR under section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on the basis of a complaint by the girls uncle. The accused has been arrested by the revenue police,” sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Kirti Nagar Sonia Pant said.According to media reports, SDM Pant also added that the process to transfer the case from the revenue police to the regular police has already begun. Senior Superintendent of police, Navneet Singh has been informed of the transfer process as well.“Upon the district magistrates order, we will launch a probe into the case,” Singh said.
