Together with Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the 'priority corridor' of the Agra Metro by video conference on Wednesday. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), which is in charge of this stretch, aims to provide direct metro access for visitors to popular tourist destinations including the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

The metro rail will run on the "priority corridor," which consists of six stations over a six-kilometer area after it is inaugurated. As per authorities of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL), the inauguration marks the start of metro train operations on a 6 km "priority corridor," which was finished on schedule.

Tourism in Agra

The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra Tomb, and the Agra Metro rail system are just a few of the UNESCO World Heritage sites located in Agra, according to Panchanan Mishra, the deputy general manager (DGM) of the public relations office for UPMRCL. These sites are all well-connected to one another for daily influxes of tourists.

Duration of project

The nation's groundbreaking project, Agra Metro, was finished in an astounding 11 months, with tunnels covering a 3 kilometer underground section. Agra Metro's "priority corridor" was built in 23 months for the underground corridor and 29 months for the elevated corridor, making it the fastest underground metro project in India. The project was started on December 7, 2020.

Metro stations

The metro rail will run on the "priority corridor," which consists of six stations over a six-kilometer area, after it is inaugurated. Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta, and Fatehabad Road Station are the first three elevated stations in the corridor; Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Mankameshwar are the subterranean metro stations.

Cost of project

The Agra Metro Rail Project has cost us Rs. 8379.62 crore in total. At a cost of Rs. 2100 crore, the priority part has been finished. According to reports, the cost of a ticket to travel the corridor is ₹10 for one station to another, ₹20 for two stations, and ₹30 for three to six stations. Built in Savli, Vadodara, Agra Metro is in line with the "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat" programs. For Agra, the project calls for 28 metro trains with three carriages each.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) provides half of the project finance, with the remaining half being equally divided between the state and federal governments.

Efforts towards sustainability

The Indian Green Building Council has awarded the Captain Shubham Gupta and Fatehabad Road metro stations a Platinum certification. According to Panchanan Mishra, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has made sure that all of its construction operations are sustainable, livable, and ecologically friendly from the beginning.

Mishra reported that rather than cutting down trees to make way for the metro corridor, they were moved. As part of the mandated afforestation operations, UPMRC planted trees over a 21-hectare area. Additionally, trees were planted in the middle of the elevated corridor that runs from Taj East Gate Metro Station to Fatehabad Road Metro Station.

Agra Metro has obtained ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management and ISO 45001 certification for safety management for both its main and supplementary subterranean sections.
