Dalits attacked in Kanpur: In a disturbing incident in Pahewa village, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, miscreants attacked and opened fire at a 'Buddha Katha' program organised by the Dalit community, causing damage to property and injuring individuals.

Nighttime Attack Unleashed

The assault occurred at 2:00 am on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, with eight individuals named in the case, including Chandrabhan Mishra, Golu Mishra, Jitu Mishra, and MLA's public relations officer Manish Tiwari. The police are actively investigating the incident.

Alleged Villager Assault

Villagers claim that the accused assaulted people present at the program, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The incident unfolded during a 9-day 'Buddha Katha' organised in the village, where threats from the upper caste were reportedly received regarding the event.

Night of Violence

On Monday night, a group of 15 to 20 people allegedly attacked, beat elderly individuals, children, and sound personnel with sticks, firing four rounds in the process. The miscreants reportedly demolished the statue of Saint Ravidas and seized sound equipment, offerings, and a copy of the Constitution.

Police Respond Swiftly

In response to the tragic incident, a case has been registered at Saadh police station under various sections, including those under the SC/ST Act. The police have taken three accused into custody and initiated a swift investigative process. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, is overseeing the investigation, with efforts to apprehend all involved parties underway.

Strong Police Presence

A significant deployment of police forces and PAC has been implemented in and around the incident site, with senior officers personally overseeing the investigation. The police administration, with the help of local residents, is installing a new statue of revered Saint Shri Ravidas at the site.
