With North India in the grip of intense cold weather, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration in Uttar Pradesh has announced the closure of schools in Noida for students up to Class 8 from January 3 to 6. However, classes will continue as usual for students of Classes 9 to 12.

Earlier, all schools in the city were closed on December 29 and 30 owing to the cold wave conditions.

Minimum temperatures have dipped to single digits in several UP districts over the past week. Dense to very dense fog has enveloped the state in the initial days of 2023. The IMD has also forecast light rainfall in western UP from January 3 onwards.

What is the weather in Delhi?

In neighbouring Delhi, residents woke up to a windy Tuesday morning with the minimum settling at 8.3 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal. Moderate to dense fog occurred at isolated places, per the weather agency.

December 2022 was Delhi's warmest December in six years, with no 'cold wave' days recorded during the entire month.

The temporary closure of junior classes aims to protect younger children from exposure to harsh weather. Senior students are expected to take necessary precautions while commuting and attending school.
