Gautam Buddh Nagar Police have imposed restrictions this weekend in Noida and Greater Noida to maintain law and order during New Year's festivities.

Section 144 imposed in Noida, Greater Noida

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police announced Saturday that prohibitory measures under Criminal Procedure Code section 144 will be in effect between December 31 and January 1. This prevents gatherings of five or more people in public spaces.

Unauthorised processions, public prayers and alcohol consumption have also been prohibited on Sunday and Monday.

The order states that flying private drones within one kilometre of government sites is completely banned during this period. Police permission will be required for drone use elsewhere.

Here’s the order:

"Festivities will begin on New Year's Eve and continue till January 1. Various organisations have proposed holding events like protests during this time," the order said.

"Possibilities of disturbing the peace by antisocial elements cannot be ruled out...Appropriate arrangements are in place to ensure safety, but preventive action is needed," police added.

Why Section 144 has been imposed?

The measures aim to maintain peace and prevent mischievous activities that could create adverse conditions, according to authorities.

Violating the prohibitions is a punishable offence.

Police said the moves will allow safe celebrations as 2022 draws to a close and 2023 begins.
