Massive blaze after car-dumper collision kills 8, injures 2 on UP highway

Eight people were burned to death and two others seriously injured in a horrific head-on collision between a car and a dumper truck on the Bareilly-Nainital Highway, near Bhojipura police station, on Saturday night, as per officials.

According to eyewitnesses, the car tyre burst, sending it careening into the path of the oncoming dumper truck, which was travelling from Uttarakhand. The impact sparked a massive explosion as both vehicles burst into flames, trapping the occupants inside.

Police and fire personnel rushed to the scene after being alerted by local residents. Despite valiant efforts to extinguish the blaze, all eight occupants of the car succumbed to their injuries, unable to escape due to locked doors.

The two occupants of the dumper truck sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

The local Superintendent of Police (SSP) confirmed the deaths and identified the deceased as residents of Bareilly travelling towards Baheri. A child was also among the victims.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Police are gathering further details and have taken possession of the mangled vehicles for forensic analysis.
