Bharat Jodo Yatra
UP Jodo Yatra: Following the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' spearheaded by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, the Congress is now primed for the 'UP Jodo Yatra,' set to commence on December 20.
The 'UP Jodo Yatra' is scheduled to kick off from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and will reach its culmination point in Sitapur. State party chief Ajay Rai will lead this endeavour, covering 16 parliamentary constituencies.
Several prominent Congress leaders, including Nirmal Khatri, Salman Khurshid, Ajay Lallu, Brijlal Khabri, Zafar Ali Naqvi, have been entrusted with significant roles.
This strategic move comes in anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Following significant losses in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, the Congress finds itself out of power in a substantial part of the Hindi heartland, posing challenges for its aspirations in the upcoming polls.
Earlier this month, the Congress leadership held extensive meetings to assess and understand its dismal performance in the recent assembly elections.
While facing setbacks in some regions, the Congress secured a resounding victory in Telangana's 119-member assembly, capturing 64 seats.
Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra,' covering 3,970 km across 12 states and two Union territories from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, lasted over 130 days. This journey, witnessing his traverse of nearly 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, notably impacted Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh's elections, elevating their strike rate and vote share.
The Yatra notably spanned 511 km in Karnataka over 22 days, bridging the distance between Gundlupet constituency and Raichur Rural constituency, amplifying Congress's influence during these electoral contests.
