In a tragic turn of events, a teenage victim of sexual assault committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Tuesday as the accused was forcing her to take her case back, police said.

The victim was a 16-year-old girl of a village in the Jhinjhana police station area while the accused has been identified as Talib.

According to the police, Talib had sexually abused the girl last year following which was arrested by police but was later granted bail by the court, the girl’s father said.

The father of the teen lodged a complaint on Tuesday where he said that Talib was pressuring the girl to take back the case against him which is pending in court.

Adding on to his complaint from last year, the fresh complaint booked Talib on the charges of abetment of suicide, Additional Superintendent of Police O P Singh said.

The accused is currently on the run but efforts are being made to arrest him, Sigh added.
