In another instance of gun violence in the US, Two women were killed and three people were injured in a mass shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham, Alabama. The shooting continued as the victims were transported to a local hospital in an ambulance.

At least 5 people were hit in the shooting that first occurred at a nightclub on 5th Avenue North early Labor Day morning at around 2.30 a.m.

Details of shooting

According to witnesses, a Chevrolet Tahoe pulled up outside of the University of Alabama Birmingham hospital, those inside were seeking treatment for victims of the first shooting. Reports also say that during the shooting the gunfire broke a hospital room window and hit a nearby police car, reports

Out of the 5 people who were shot two were women who died at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital, according to the Birmingham Police Department. Authorities have, however, not disclosed any information on the condition of the three more who were injured.

“At 2:17 am Monday, shots were fired at a vehicle arriving at the emergency department with individuals believed to have been injured in an earlier off-site shooting,” according to a University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital spokesperson.

“The shooter immediately fled the scene,” said the hospital.

Media sources also say that Tehreem Khan, a media specialist at UAB, confirmed to CBS affiliate WIAT that UAB Hospital’s emergency room was placed on lockdown after shots were fired outside the building. There has been no update on whether the lockdown has been lifted.

Previous shootings

There has been a rise in the cases of gun shootings in the US in recent times. Similarly just last week on August 29 a faculty member was shot dead in board daylight in the campus of the University of North Carolina.

In another such case from August 3, black men were also shot dead at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville by a white man who shot himself after that and has been described as a racially motivated crime by law enforcers.
