A 60-year-old man hanged himself after allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in a village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh (UP), police said on Friday. This incident took place in the area that falls under the jurisdiction of Faridpur police station, they said.The accused has been identified as Sher Mohammad who was caught forcing himself on the little girl by her family.Bareilly crime details According to the police, the girl was found soaked in blood and she was immediately taken to the district hospital. Her Family has alleged that she was playing outside their house and began searching for her when she did not return home for long.They said that while searching they reached Mohammads house and saw him sexually abusing the minor. Upon seeing the girls family members, the accused fled the scene, the police said.Case registered against accused UP manAn FIR was launched against Mohammed under sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.The police then launched a search operation to find him but they later stumbled upon the accused hanging from a tree, a police official said.Prima facie it appears that Mohammad, fearing the police action or out of remorse, hanged himself from the tree, he said. The body was sent for post-mortem, police said.
