UP: 22-year-old man killed in tiger attack, area on high alert

A young man was killed by a tiger in the Mohammadi range of the South Kheri Forest Division, said the police.

The tragic incident happened in the Udhaypur village under the Hyderabad police limits when a 22-year-old victim, identified as Rohit, had gone to collect grass to feed his domestic animals, the officials said.

According to the investigation, the villagers said that when Rohit did not return home, his family members started searching for him and spotted his bicycle, a grass cutter and a pile of grass near a field with the pug marks of a tiger.

Victim’s body was found partially eaten

After his family reached the police, the Forest officials were informed and a search operation was launched. During the search, the police found the partially eaten body of the victim in a sugarcane field later.

South Kheri’s Divisional forest officer (DFO) Sanjay Biswal visited the spot and asked villagers to be on alert.

Official statements

Speaking to the news agency PTI, Biswal confirmed Rohit’s death in a tiger attack and the animal’s pug marks were clearly seen on the spot when the corpse was found.

The official said the body was sent for an autopsy examination and further proceedings were carried out.

Further, the DFO added that the movement of a male tiger had been reported in the area earlier and local people were requested to be vigilant.
