A shocking incident took place in Uttar Pradeshs Hapur district when a 23-year-old was allegedly set on fire by her family members after she was found pregnant, said the police on Friday.Family of woman set her on fire after knowing about her pregnancy in HapurThis incident happened in Nawada Khurd village. Reportedly, the woman, who is in critical condition after sustaining over 70 per cent burns to her body, was referred to a higher centre for treatment.The victims mother and her brother were taken into custody by the police.Official statementAccording to the police, she is unmarried and had a physical relationship with a young man from the same village and became pregnant. When her family came to know about this, they were angered.On Thursday, her mother and brother took her to a nearby forest where they then sprinkled petrol on her and set her on fire. The victim suffered severe burns and was rushed to the hospital, said the police.Briefing about this incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (Hapur) Rajkumar Aggarwal said a case of attempted murder against the womans mother and brother was registered.
