Amidst the ongoing tension in violence-hit Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to chair the all-party meeting in the national capital, Delhi on Saturday (June 24, 2023) to discuss the situation in the state. The high-level meeting is scheduled for 3PM.

Briefing about the high-level meeting, the home ministry spokesperson took to Twitter and wrote, “Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah has convened an all-party meeting on 24th June at 3 PM in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur.”

Internet services ban extended till June 25

Manipur is still witnessing incidents like arson since May 3, therefore, the state government has extended the ban on the internet by five more days till June 25 to maintain peace in the state.

Also, the data services have been banned in order to circumvent the unrest in the state.

The violence first gripped Manipur on May 3 after the clashes broke out during a rally organised by the ATSU (All Tribals Students Union) to protest the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the ST (Scheduled Tribe) list.  Recently, Amit Shah visited the state and met people in his effort to bring back peace within the northeastern state.  In the violence, almost 115 people were killed and thousands have been displaced.

Taking notes from the situation, former Congress supremo, Sonia Gandhi said that the unprecedented violence that has devastated the lives of people in Manipur has “left a deep wound in the conscience of our nation” while appealing for peace and harmony in the strife-torn state.

All-party meeting isn’t important to PM Modi: Rahul Gandhi

Moreover, Union Minister Shah’s all-party meeting on June 24, to discuss the prevailing situation in the state in the wake of violence, and clashes, has also ignited conversations on the timing of the high-level meeting. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that it is being convened at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a state visit to US and Egypt, which shows that the “meeting isn’t importance to him.”

Taking it to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi wrote in Hindi, “Manipur has been burning for 50 days, but the Prime Minister remained silent. An all-party meeting was called when the Prime Minister himself is not in the country! Clearly, this meeting is not important for the Prime Minister.”

C Venugopal calls PM’s absence ‘Cowardice’

Meanwhile, Congress’ General Secretary called PM Modi’s absence ‘cowardice’, KC Venugopal alleged, “At the outset, the PM’s absence from such a serious meeting shows his ‘cowardice’ and ‘unwillingness’ to confront his failures. Even when multiple delegations sought meetings with him, he had no time for them.”

Hitting out at Amit Shah, he said that since the union minister visited the violence-hit state, the situation has ‘worsened.’
