Uttar Pradesh: In a major crackdown on traffic congestion, Noida Traffic Police has rolled out new penalties for vehicle breakdowns on the Noida Expressway. Commercial vehicles causing traffic jams will now face hefty fines between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000. Implemented under the direction of DCP (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav, this rule aims to curb delays affecting nearly 5 lakh commuters daily.

Why were these new rules introduced?

The Noida Expressway has been plagued by frequent vehicle breakdowns, especially during peak hours, causing massive disruptions. With thousands of vehicles traveling between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi every day, stranded vehicles worsen congestion. To tackle this issue, authorities have decided to enforce penalties under Section 201 of the Motor Vehicles Act, ensuring traffic flows smoothly.

Who will be fined under the new rules?

The strict penalties primarily target commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty transport. While private cars are currently exempt, commercial vehicles will be fined if they:

  •  Lack valid fitness certificates or PUC (Pollution Under Control) documents
  • Violate emission norms set by the National Green Tribunal (NGT)
  •  Are overloaded or exceed prescribed limits
  • Break down and block traffic flow

What 's next?

Authorities have assured that these measures aim to ease congestion and improve commuter experience on the Noida Expressway. While private vehicles are currently not under scrutiny, stricter regulations may be introduced in the future. For now, commercial vehicle operators must ensure compliance or risk hefty fines and vehicle impoundment.
