Tripura Police arrests two top National Liberation Front of Tripura (BM) militants

The NLFT (BM) has been active in Tripura for several decades, advocating for a sovereign tribal homeland within the state.

In an operational success, Tripura Police apprehended two of its top militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (Biswamohan) on Thursday night. The arrested militants have been identified as Sachin Debbarma, the group's self-styled Army Chief, and Utpal Debbarma, its self-styled Secretary General of NLFT.

Crippling blow to NLFT (BM)

West Tripura's Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar K said, "The arrest of Sachin Debbarma and Utpal Debbarma is a significant achievement for Tripura Police." 

He also said, "It is a major step towards dismantling the NLFT (BM) and ensuring peace and security in the state."

Crumbling insurgency

The NLFT (BM) has been active in Tripura for several decades, advocating for a sovereign tribal homeland within the Indian state. 

The arrest of Debbarma and Debbarma comes just months after Tripura Police apprehended 10 other NLFT (BM) militants in a separate operation.
