Five people lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Zoji La Pass on Thursday, marking the second deadly incident on the treacherous mountain road in just three days.The accident occurred when a vehicle traveling from Kargil to Sonamarg skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. All five passengers succumbed to their injuries.This latest incident comes as a stark reminder of the dangers inherent to the Zoji La Pass, a vital but challenging route connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Ladakh region. On Tuesday, a similar accident claimed the lives of five people, including four tourists from Kerala.What caused accident in Zoji La PassThe exact cause of Thursdays accident is still under investigation, however, the treacherous conditions of the pass, including snow-covered roads and sharp turns, are believed to have played a role.Local residents and Sonamarg police quickly responded to the accident, conducting a rescue operation and transporting the injured to the Sonamarg Primary Health Center. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.
