The Trinamool Congress in West Bengal is the first one to ban the film ‘The Kerala Story,’ citing the ‘maintenance of peace’ and to avoid incidents of hatred and violence. The film, which tells a story of three women who are sold to ISIS camps after being converted to Islam through marriage, was originally outlawed in West Bengal.

According to the reports, the chief minister of the state has directed the chief secretary to remove the movie from all the theatres where it is being screened. Mamata Banerjee, after declaring the ban, stated that the move has been taken to avoid any hatred and violence in the state.

The Bengal CM also brought up the movie ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which explored the purported genocide of Kashmiri Pandits and played to full theatres despite opposition protests. Its sole purpose was to degrade a certain group in society. The Kerala Story: What is it? It is a distorted movie,” said during a press conference.

Reacting to the ban, the makers of the film said that they will pursue legal action against the decision of the state government.

‘The Kerala Story’ Tax-Free in MP and UP

After Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh becomes the second state to make the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free. The information has been shared by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh through his social media account on Tuesday. It is also anticipated that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to attend the special screening of the movie with his colleagues at Lok Bhawan, the chief minister’s secretariat said.

Last year, also the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh attended the special screening of the ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ after declaring it tax-free in the state. Recently, UP BJP secretary Raghvendra Mishra organised a special screening of the film for 100 girl students in Lucknow.

The film has also received support from the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoking it during the Karnataka Assembly election campaigning.

Vivek Agnihotri to sue Mamata Banerjee?

The director of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ said that he is considering filing a defamation case against Mamata Banerjee after she alleged that the controversial film was made to humiliate one section of society, whereas ‘The Kerala Story’ is a distorted movie.

The Trinamool Congress supremo made the remarks during a press conference. “BJP is showing The Kerala Story, a distorted story. A few days back, some stars funded by BJP came to Bengal, and with some distorted and concocted story, they are preparing Bengal Files,” she added.

Taking to Twitter, Agnihotri said, “VERY IMPORTANT: In this video, I guess, @MamataOfficial didi is talking about me. Yes, I came to Bengal to interview survivors of the Direct Action Day genocide instigated by Khilafat. And the role of Gopal Patha. Why are you scared? #TheKashmirFiles was about Genocide and terrorism. On what basis do you think it was to defame the Kashmiri people? On what basis do you say so maliciously that it is funded by a political party? Why shouldn’t I file a defamation case and a case of Genocide Denial against you? Btw, the film is called #TheDelhiFiles, not Bengal Files. And nobody can silence me.”

Anupam Kher’s reaction

Since the time the trailer of the movie is out, it is making the headlines. Bollywood Actor Anupam Kher recently opened up about the controversy around ‘The Kerala Story’ and said that people who are opposing the film also criticised The Kashmir Files. Both The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story triggered massive political rows. Many called them propaganda films as well. Kher said that they are the same faces who criticised the movie ‘The Kashmir Files.’ He added that he has not seen the film so far but he is glad that people are making movies on such subjects.
