The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) has unveiled the anticipated list of flag bearers representing 45 National Olympic Committees for the grand opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games. Scheduled for Saturday, September 23, this event promises to be a vibrant celebration of the unity and athletic prowess of the continent.

In a move to foster gender equity, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) directed earlier that all participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have to select one female and one male athlete to lead their respective delegations during the spectacular parade of athletes at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. The eagerly awaited opening ceremony is set to commence at 8:00 PM, with the parade of athletes.

The highly anticipated list of marches for the nations has been officially announced, with Afghanistan taking the lead and the host nation, China, occupying the final spot in the procession, following Yemen.

China’s flag bearers

China, as the host nation, has selected two outstanding athletes to bear its national flag. The honor goes to swimmer Qin Haiyang, whose remarkable achievements at the recent World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, earned him four gold medals, including three in individual breaststroke competitions and one in the mixed medley relay. He will be joined by China’s women’s basketball sensation, Yang Liwei, an emblem of China’s sporting excellence.

India’s flag bearers

The Indian contingent will be led by Indian hockey’s skipper Harmanpreet Singh and Olympic medalist Boxer Lovlina Borgohain.

As the world eagerly awaits the 19th Asian Games opening ceremony, anticipation is mounting to witness these remarkable athletes proudly carry their respective flags, embodying the spirit of unity and competition on this global stage.
