The chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal called the arrest of party leader Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as “totally illegal”, on Wednesday.

The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that it shows the “frustration” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed that many more leaders from the opposition will be arrested till the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Kejriwal said in a post on the microblogging site X, “The arrest of Sanjay Singh is totally illegal. This shows Modiji’s frustration. They will arrest many more opposition leaders till the elections”.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s MP, Sanjay Singh, was taken into custody after a day-long interrogation by ED officials at his residence in Delhi. Sanjay Singh was later brought to the ED office.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Sanjay Singh’s party colleague, Manish Sisodia was also arrested in the ‘liquor policy scam’ case and is in jail. Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, for his alleged role in the scam.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday morning raided the residence of Sanjay Singh in connection with the now-canceled liquor excise policy in Delhi. The action followed ED’s raid on the premises of Sanjay Singh’s close aides.

The Delhi excise policy case addresses the allegations that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 favored certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes the government officials for it, a charge that has been strongly disapproved by the Aam Aadmi Party. The central probe agency has so far filed five chargesheets in the case, including against Manish Sisodia.
