Telangana Assembly Elections 2023: As Telangana gears up for crucial assembly elections on Thursday, a fierce three-way battle is anticipated among the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress.

With polling scheduled for all 119 constituencies from 7 am to 6 pm and the vote count set for December 3, the electoral landscape is poised for a significant shift.

Numbers and Candidates

Over 3.17 crore voters are expected to cast their votes, choosing legislators for the 119-member state Assembly. A staggering 2,290 candidates from 109 parties, including both national and regional entities, will vie for victory. Notably, 221 women and one transgender candidate are part of the electoral fray. Among the contenders, 103 legislators are seeking re-election, most hailing from the ruling BRS.

Spotlight on Key Constituencies

Several constituencies have caught the attention of political observers due to the high-stakes battles unfolding within them. Notable areas include Gajwel, Huzurabad, Korutla, Maheshwaram, Goshamahal, Mahbubnagar, LB Nagar, Warangal East and West, Bhupalapally, Khairatabad, Amberpet, Boath, Nirmal, Adilabad, Ramagundam, Peddapalli, Kothagudem, Armoor, Nizamabad Urban, Patancheru, Serilingampally, Husnabad, Dubbak, Kalwakurthy, and more.

Key Contestants and Battles

  • K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is contesting from Gajwel and Kamareddy, facing challenges from BJP leader Etela Rajender and Congress state unit chief Revanth Reddy, respectively.
  • Lok Sabha member Arvind Dharmapuri of BJP is contesting from Korutla against BRS's Kalvakuntla Sanjay and Congress's Narsinga Rao Juvvadi.
  • Goshamahal sees BJP's T Raja Singh in a prominent role, known for his strong Hindutva stance.
  • Bhupalapally witnesses a three-way contest between Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy (BRS), Gandra Satyanarayana Rao (Congress), and G Keerthi Reddy (BJP).
  • In Peddapalli, Congress's Chinthakunta Vijaya Ramana Rao faces challenges from Pradeep Kumar Dugyala (BJP) and Dasari Manohar Reddy (BRS).

High-Stakes Battle

The campaigning concluded on Tuesday, with BJP focusing on the 'Double Engine' government narrative, while BRS and Congress presented their visions under the slogans 'Let's make Telangana from good to great' and 'Marpu Kavali, Congress Ravali' respectively. If KCR secures another term, it will mark a historic third consecutive term for a Chief Minister from a Southern state.

In the 2018 elections, BRS secured 88 out of 119 seats with a 47.4% vote share, while Congress secured a distant second with 19 seats. The battle for Telangana's future is set to unfold, with key constituencies holding the promise of shaping the political landscape.
