KV Ramana Reddy: As Telangana witnesses a historic shift in power dynamics, one name emerges from the heart of the political drama – Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy (KV Ramana Reddy) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In the Kamareddy Assembly constituency, amidst the formidable presence of the outgoing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his probable successor A Revanth Reddy, KV Ramana Reddy has secured a surprising victory, marking a significant moment in the state's political landscape.
Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy, a 53-year-old businessman, defied the odds to become a political force in Kamareddy. Despite not pursuing higher education, and having only completed Class 12, he has accumulated considerable wealth over the years.
According to his election affidavit, KV Ramana Reddy's total declared assets amount to Rs 49.7 crore, with moveable assets valued at Rs 2.2 crore and immovable assets at Rs 47.5 crore. His total income is reported at Rs 9.8 lakh, with a self-income of Rs 4.9 lakh.
However, he carries total liabilities of Rs 58.3 lakh. Notably, there are 11 criminal cases registered against him.
Ramana Reddy's political journey is marked by a shift from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) to the BJP. His campaign rhetoric showcased a strategic understanding of the local sentiments, emphasising being a local representative.
During his campaign, KV Ramana Reddy targeted KCR and Revanth Reddy, emphasising his local roots. His statement, "I was born here, I grew up here, I will stay with you till my death," resonated with the electorate, positioning him as the hometown candidate.
Ramana Reddy's campaign strategically played on the sentiment of non-local representation. He argued that voting for non-local candidates was equivalent to "drowning." His approach sought to resonate with the electorate's affinity for a candidate deeply rooted in the local milieu.
In a bold move, Ramana Reddy openly dismissed KCR as a formidable opponent, stating, "I am not facing him; he is facing me by contesting in the Kamareddy Assembly constituency." This statement and his readiness to sacrifice his property for the people projected a confident and resolute political figure.
Kamareddy, Assembly constituency number 16, holds pivotal importance in the larger Zahirabad Lok Sabha constituency. Categorised as a rural and general constituency, Kamareddy became the battleground where KV Ramana Reddy secured a remarkable victory against seasoned political contenders.
KV Ramana Reddy's triumph in Kamareddy echoes beyond individual victories; it symbolises a departure from established political norms. As Telangana ushers in a change in power dynamics, the surprising rise of KV Ramana Reddy showcases the intricate dance of localism, strategic campaigning, and the electorate's pulse.
