Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, YS Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is likely to join the Congress on January 4 (Thursday). She is also the founder and the chief of the YSR Telangana Party.
This move comes days after Congress swept the Assembly polls in Telangana, ending the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) dominance in the state.
Meanwhile, YS Sharmila has called for a meeting with all the party leaders at 11 am on Tuesday, wherein discussions on the party merger and future activities are likely to be discussed.
Notably, she reiterated her support for the Congress party days before the recently concluded assembly polls in Telangana were held. She then refused to contest the November 30 polls in Telangana to prevent a split of votes that could have been an advantage for former CM Chandrashekar Rao.
"I am extending support to the Congress party because the Congress party stands the chance of winning in the Telangana Assembly elections," she said.
"KCR has not fulfilled any of the promises he made to the people in his 9-year tenure. And that's the only reason I do not want KCR to come to power. I, as YSR's daughter support the Congress' risk Congress' chance. In more than 55 constituencies I am going to affect the Congress vote bank," YS Sharmila had said.
