Warangal, Telangana: With the Telangana Assembly elections looming, Rahul Gandhi of the Congress launched a scathing attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that the ruling parties' alliance renders Prime Minister Modi inconspicuous in the state.

War of Words Escalates in Telangana

As the political rhetoric intensifies in the lead-up to the Telangana Assembly polls, Rahul Gandhi conducted a roadshow in Warangal East, using the platform to criticise the BJP and BRS, describing them as a unified force.

BJP and BRS: Allies in Power

Gandhi portrayed BJP and BRS as aligned entities, working cohesively in Delhi and Telangana. He alleged that the parties collaborated on significant issues, such as GST, farmers' rules, and demonetisation.

"Modi Won't Be Visible"

Predicting a diminished presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Telangana, Gandhi claimed that the Congress, as the main opposition, has thwarted BJP's attempts. He declared, "Congress punctured the tyres of PM Modi's vehicle in Telangana; now he won't be visible in Telangana."

AIMIM Accusation and Political Goals

Taking aim at the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Gandhi accused the party of indirectly assisting the BJP in elections. He asserted that Congress's primary objectives are to remove Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao from power in Telangana and to challenge Modi's government in 2024.

Past Elections and Future Plans

The upcoming Assembly elections on November 30 suggest a direct contest between BRS and Congress. Reflecting on the 2018 elections, where BRS secured a significant victory, Gandhi expressed confidence in conducting a caste census once Congress assumes power in the state.

Caste Census and Inclusive Politics

Gandhi emphasised the need to understand the demographics of Dalit, backward class, and tribal communities. He announced plans to increase OBC reservation and conduct a caste census in Telangana.

Allegations of Biased Governance

Accusing the BJP and BRS of working for the benefit of a select few, Gandhi outlined Congress's commitment to redistributing wealth to the poor. He stated, "Wherever we form the government, we clearly instruct our CM to give as much money to the poor as was given by these parties to the affluent."

In the lead-up to the polls, the verbal sparring between political leaders continues, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election in Telangana.
