Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay who was arrested in a case related to a class 10 exam paper leak was released from jail after the Hanamkonda court granted him bail on Thursday night. According to the sources, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Lok Sabha MP from Karimnagar constituency, was named as the prime accused in the SSC paper leak for Hindi examination through instant messaging groups.

According to his lawyer Shyam Sundar Reddy, the court has granted bail to Bandi Sanjay at the bond of Rs 20,000 and sureties. Advocate Shyam Sundar Reddy said, “Court has accepted our request and bail was granted to Bandi Sanjay furnishing with sureties and Rs 20,000. On Friday, after furnishing the release order, he will be released from the Karim Nagar jail.” He further added that the court has also asked him to stay in the country and can’t leave India without permission.

On Wednesday, the MP got arrested by the Warangal Police on April 5 on charges of criminal conspiracy and malpractices, among others. Along with Bandi Sanjay, three others have been sent to judicial custody till April 19 in the SSC paper leak case. Reportedly, Bandi Sanjay was detained from his residence on Wednesday at midnight ahead of Prime Minister’s visit to the state. A police team reached the MP’s residence in Karimnagar residence and took him into custody.

While talking to the media after being released from jail, Bandi Sanjay requested the state government to inquire into the SSC paper leak case with a Sitting Judge and chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao’s son and minister KT Rama Rao. Apart from this Bandi Sanjay also lashed out at the state government for making him accused in the case regarding school and job examinations.

He challenged AV Ranganath, the commissioner of the Warangal Police, to swear on his cap, which bears the three-lion Indian national crest, that everything the official said was accurate. He asserted that the police commissioner was ignorant of the distinction between malfeasance and paper leaks. When someone forwarded the leaked question paper to the BJP leader’s mobile phone, he inquired as to how he was connected to the matter. He criticised the police for failing to issue a notification before the arrest.

According to the sources, Bandi Sanjay also said that their party will intensify the agitation against the paper leak case. The Member of Parliament and three other accused arrested in the case were released on April 5 after they got bail from the Hanamkonda court the case. The bail application filed by Bandi Sanjay was accepted by the court on Thursday night after hearing the arguments and the counter-arguments. The bail was granted on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and two sureties by the principal Judicial magistrate.

Just minutes after the Telangana SSC Board exam started on Monday and Tuesday for two days straight, photos of the exam papers started circulating on social media. While the alleged paper leaks have alarmed students and parents, the matter has also sparked debate among the state’s political parties. The police detained BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar late on Tuesday night on suspicion that he was involved in the suspected leak of the Hindi exam paper.

A young child reportedly snapped pictures of the Hindi test on Tuesday morning after scaling a tree to get to an exam room on the first floor of a building in Hanamkonda, Warangal district. Then he sent it on to his friends. According to the police, BJP chief Bandi Sanjay is the main accused in the paper leak case.
