Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on Saturday in connection with a skill development scam, has now been sent to 14-day judicial custody, till September 23. He was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to sources, Vijayawada ACB court Judge Himabindu read out the judgment on former CM Chandrababu’s case, earlier on Sunday when Naidu was produced before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada. The judge then ordered the remand of Naidu for 14 days to judicial custody and suggested to take former CM to Rajahmundry central jail.

Notably, the former chief minister was produced before the court within 24 hours of his arrest.

What is the case all about?

According to the officials, the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) throughout the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of ₹3300 crore, is the subject of the case.

Additionally, according to agency representatives, the alleged scam cost the state government more than ₹300 crores in losses.

In addition to this, the probe has uncovered severe irregularities, such as the fact that the previous state government gave an advance of ₹371 crores, the whole 10% promise by the government before any expenditure by private firms.
