In Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu, a rowdy sheeter was shot and injured by the police when he allegedly tried to escape from clutches on Wednesday morning, said the official.

Tamil Nadu police shoot accused for escaping from their clutches

The accused, identified as Thanika, is categorised as an A+ history category rowdy, they said.

According to officials, the police opened fire after he attacked the personnel while being taken to Chengalpattur as part of an investigation in a case.

The accused was apprehended from the Thiruvallir district and was brought to Chengalpattu for investigation.

How did it happen?

The team warned the fleeing Thanika but he tried to escape from the police custody near Mamandur. Taking a precautionary measure, the team then shot his hand and leg, they added.

Later, the accused was taken to Chengalpattu government hospital where first aid was given. Now he is likely to be shifted to Chennai for further treatment. Police said that Thanika has more than six cases against him including 5 murders and a robbery.

The accused was shifted to the district hospital and is being referred to Chennai. Further investigation into the incident is on, the officials added.
