The northeastern state, of Manipur which has been witnessing communal violence since May 3, is again under the heat. According to the information, the state is witnessing tension again as hundreds of people came out on the streets to protest against the killing of two students who went missing in July.

The pictures of the dead bodies of the two students surfaced on social media has again ignited an outrage among the people, soon after the restoration of the internet services in the state.

Amid fresh flare-up, the Central government on Thursday repatriated senior Srinagar police official Rakesh Balwal to the northeastern state. It is to be noted here that the move of transferring the senior official has come almost a month by the central government after the state government asked for more officials due to the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for premature repatriation of Shri Rakesh Balwal, IPS from AGMUT cadre to Manipur cadre,” read a notification. Notably, Balwal was the part of the team who investigated the 2019 Pulwama attacks.

Why was Manipur tensed again?

The pictures of two students who were killed by two armed men surfaced on social media a couple of days back, which has created an outrage among the people of Manipur and the country. The students went missing in July. The pictures surfaced on social media soon after N Biren Singh, the chief minister of the state lifted the ban on the internet services, this week.
