A heart-wrenching incident took place in the national capital on Sunday (June 25) as a woman at New Delhi railway station died after getting electrocuted due to severe waterlogging amid heavy downpours. 

The deceased is identified as Sakshi Ahuja, a resident of Preet Vihar in East Delhi

How Sakshi died?

According to media reports, she reached the railway station in the wee hours of the morning along with two women and three children. She held on to an electric pole to avoid peddles when she suffered a massive electric shock, causing her death. 

The police said that Sakshi was rushed to the hospital by the onlookers to save her life, however, she died during a treatment. 

In an official statement, the police said that the tragic incident happened near exit number one of the New Delhi railway station, adding, they found the woman unconscious on reaching the spot of the incident.

The police said, “Immediately, they, along with injured Sakshi Ahuja’s sister Madhvi Chopta, took her to LHMC (Lady Hardinge Medical College) hospital where the doctor declared her brought dead.”

Sakshi’s sister filed a case alleging negligence by concerned authorities

After the shocking demise of Sakshi due to electrocution, her sister Madhvi Chopra has registered a complaint alleging negligence by concerned authorities, based on which a case was filed, the police said.

Footages showed naked electric wires at the bottom of the pole, which is suspected to have caused the terrific accident.

Investigation is on

The investigation is undergoing of the incident by the railways and the police. Further, a case has been lodged, and the police are investigating who is responsible for the negligence. 

Taking notes for the heavy downpours in Delhi, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, “5 cm maximum rainfall was recorded in Delhi today, and rain will continue for the next two days.”
