Update (August 14, 1:25 PM): Nine people have been killed and several others are feared trapped under the debris of a temple, which collapsed in Shimla after being hit by a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall on Monday. Taking the toll to 21 in the rain-hit state in past 24 hours.

“Twenty to 25 people are trapped under debris here. A total of 21 people have died in the last 24 hours in the state. I appeal to people to stay indoors, to not venture near rivers and landslide-prone areas. Restoration work will begin as soon as rain stops,” after visiting the spot the chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said.


At least 9 people have killed and thirty have been feared trapped after landside due to incessant rains in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla on Monday. According to the sources, the incident happened at Shiv Mandir at Summer Hill, when the people were offering prayers on the occasion of Sawan month.

It is to be noted here that rain related incidents have claimed several lives in Himachal Pradesh so far.

The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief on the incident. Taking it to Twitter, he said, “Distressing news has emerged from Shimla, where the “Shiv Mandir” at Summer Hill collapsed as a result of the heavy rainfall. As of now, nine bodies have been retrieved. The local administration is diligently working to clear the debris in order to rescue individuals who may still be trapped.”

According to the information, the local administration and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team have been indulged in the rescue operation. The officials of rescue operation informed that several are still feared trapped in the landslide.

In another tweet, sharing the heart wrenching images have been shared by the CM Sukhu. In his tweet he has urged people to stay away from water bodies. The tweet reads, “Again tragedy has befallen Himachal Pradesh, with continuous rainfall over the past 48 hours. Reports of cloudbursts and landslides have emerged from various parts of the state resulting in loss of precious lives and property. I urge the people to avoid areas prone to sliding and to stay away from water bodies.”

CM also express grief on the incident that has claimed seven lives in Jadon, Solan district on Monday. the tweet reads, “Devastated to hear about the loss of 7 precious lives in the tragic cloud burst incident at Village Jadon, Dhawla Sub-Tehsil in Solan District. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families. We share in your pain and sorrow during this difficult time. We have directed the authorities to ensure all possible assistance and support to the affected families during this trying period.”
