The decision from a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur came as a setback on Wednesday for convicted Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, his wife Tanzeem Fatima and son Abdullah Azam Khan in a fake birth certificate case.
According to the sources, the court has awarded a seven-year jail term to all the three them and a fine of Rs 15,000 each.

Speaking of the court’s judgement, former DGS (Crime) Arun Saxena said, “Abdullah Azam Khan had two birth certificates. Akash Saxena filed a FIR. After the probe, the charge sheet was filed. The court has given its judgement today and all three people were found guilty. On the conviction point, the court sentenced all three to a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment. Approximately a fine of Rs 15,000 has also been imposed.”

He further said, Abdullah Azam Khan is accused of making two birth certificates. The first birth certificate is of January 1, 1993, while the other birth certificate was made from Lucknow in which his birth date is September 30, 1990.

It is to be noted here that earlier, on September 26, Supreme Court referred to the District Judge, Muradabad and asked them to address the correct date of birth of the petition Khan in the case and send a finding for the further consideration in the matter.
Referring to the same, the court then, had noted that the correct date of birth relating to the petitioner is relevant for the ultimate consideration of the issues raised and to decide the juvenility.
Notably, Abdullah Azam Khan had moved the Supreme Court against a recent Allahabad HC order that refused to stay his in connection with a 2008 protest case, which led to his disqualification as an MLA from the Uttar Pradesh assembly.
According to the information, Khan claimed that he was juvenile at the time of incident after which he was convicted and sentenced two years of imprisonment.
