India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train is expected to start in June this year. The very first train will be operational between Ghaziabad’s Sahibabad and Duhai. This is going to be the first phase launch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor. The second corridor will be between Delhi and Alwar. This route is going to be 166-km-long which will have 18 main stations. Another offshoot line will have 4 stations. India’s first semi-high-speed rapid transit system is developed by NCRTC which will connect Delhi and Duhai in the first phase. The maximum speed of the train is expected to be 180 kmph.
Out of eight corridors, three are prioritized in phase one of the project. These are Delhi-Ghaziabad- Duhai corridor, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar Corridor, and Delhi-Panipat RRTS Corridor. The total length of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor is 82.15 kilometers. The two main depots at Delhi-Meerut Corridor will be Duhai and Modipuram. The RRTS project will be beneficial to all the sectors of the society. Specially for the people who don’t have private vehicle for transportation. This project will provide a long-term solution to the traffic faced in Delhi-NCR.
The train will have one ‘Premium’ class coach also, which will give a new level to comfort, convenience and user-friendliness. They will also be equipped with the coat hangers, leg room and vending machine facility.
The travelling for the passengers is made easy, they will be able to buy tickets with QR codes, NCMC cards from the stations, banks and transport outlets. The digital tickets service will also be available for the people.
In this corridor, the Delhi-Meerut distance in under one hour. The train will be equipped with all the modern facilities like CCTV cameras, gate sensors, comfortable 2 by 2 cushioned seats etc. This train is completely manufactured in India in Gujarat’s plant. Two the trains are already reached the Duhai depot and different running test are been conducted in these trains before the start. This corridor will cost Rs 30,274 crore.
The Sahibabad corridor is expected to start before June 2023. It may start earlier as the priority section is almost complete for run. According to reports this may start running on April 1. The complete corridor of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System is expected to be completed by 2025. This will reduce the travelling time to 40 percent. The main idea behind this project is to make Delhi and NCR accessible for all commuters. The next phase will cover the Delhi-SNB Regional Rapid Transit System Corridor.
Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System will be developed in three phases, which will be Delhi-Gurgaon, Gurgaon- SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror), SNB-Alwar. 22 stations will be built on this line. The cost of this phase will be around Rs 37000 crore. And this is expected to be completed by 2028.
The stations that will cover the main line will be Nizamuddin/Sarai Kale Khan, INA, Munirka, Aerocity, Udyog Vihar, Gurugram Sector 17, Rajiv Chowk, Kherki Dhaula, Manesar, Panchgaon, Bilaspur Chowk, Dharuhera Depot, MBIR, Rewari, Bawal, SNB, Khairtal and Alwar. The smaller line will contain stations like Shahjanapur, Neemrana, Behror and Sotanala.
The Delhi-Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System Corridor will be 103 km long. After the start of this corridor the commuters will be travelling to Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat with a shorter time frame of 65 minutes only. The complete cost of this project is expected to be Rs 21,627 crore. This is one of the corridors that will be covered in phase-1 of the RRTS project.
Trains manufactured under this project are the perfect examples of the ‘Make in India’ initiative which was started with the vision of ‘Aatmnirbhar Bharat’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
These energy-efficient trains will have the facilities for the differently-abled people like, wheelchair and stretcher space for the emergency medical services.
