Karni Sena chief murder: Jaipur commissioner suspends 2 cops, probe underway

The Jaipur Police Commissioner, Anand Srivastava suspended two officers, the station house office (SHO) of Shyam Nagar police station and a local beat constable, in relation to the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

The two policemen were suspended on account of negligence related to the murder.

The brazen daylight murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, national president of the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, has led to suspensions and protests amid promises of a full investigation.

Gogamedi was shot dead by unknown gunmen outside his home in Jaipur on Tuesday, November 5. The high-profile killing immediately set off outrage in the Rajput community.

 

Widow demands swift justice, activates support base

 

Srivastava assured Gogamedi's widow, Sheela Shekhawat, that the perpetrators would be arrested within 72 hours. Addressing reporters, Shekhawat said, "The SHO of Shyam Nagar police station and the beat constable have been suspended for negligence in connection with the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. We have been assured that the accused will be arrested within 72 hours."

"Your sister will call you again, if required, and you will have to come out and support me. I request you all to come and pay your last respects (to Gogamedi) tomorrow," she said, in a message to Karni Sena activists.

Gogamedi’s mortal remains will also be set for public viewing at the Rajput Sabha Bhawan in Jaipur at 7 am on Thursday. His last rites will then take place in his native village around 2 pm.

 

Heightened security deployed across the state

 

Security has been tightened in Jaipur and the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) has been deployed in the state capital and other parts of Rajasthan to avoid any mishap on the day of Gogamedi’s funeral.

Apart from this CAPF and Rapid Action Force personnel have also been deployed at certain sensitive locations in the city.

The protests that erupted after the death of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi have now been called off and the situation is said to be in control for now, an official informed.

 

Murder accused identified

 

Authorities say they have already identified two alleged shooters involved - Rohit Rathore Makrana and Nitin Fauji, a resident of Mahendragarh, Haryana. A third assailant, Naveen Shekhawat, was killed in an exchange of gunfire at Gogamedi's home. One security guard was injured.

The killing sparked immediate protests that continued till Wednesday despite calls to stand down. Demonstrators gathered outside the hospital where Gogamedi's body was kept.

The investigation and lawsuits promise to cast light on the high-profile murder that has shocked Rajasthan's political community.
