Two coaches of a passenger train headed to Bhopal derailed on Friday evening near Kota Junction station in northern India, officials confirmed.

Coaches leave tracks, rescue underway

The coaches belonging to the Jodhpur-Bhopal passenger train line went off the tracks around Kota, a major railway junction city located in Rajasthan. "No casualties have been reported. Rescue operations are underway," railway authorities stated.

Extent of damage unclear

Details remained limited in the immediate aftermath of the derailment. It was not immediately clear what caused the incident or how many people were aboard the affected cars. Railway officials provided assurances that no injuries or deaths have been identified so far.

Intense fog grips North India

The derailment in Rajasthan coincided Friday with substantial delays at the New Delhi railway station, which was gripped by heavy fog that disrupted transportation across northern India as an extreme cold wave continued plaguing the region.
