Debutant BJP MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma will be sworn in as Rajasthan’s new Chief Minister today, coinciding auspiciously with his 56th birthday.

BJP’s Bhajan Lal Sharma to take oath as new chief minister today

The oath ceremony will take place at Jaipur’s iconic Albert Hall at 12 pm. The grand event will also be graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP figures anointing Sharma alongside Deputy CMs Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa.

Sharma cruised to victory at the recent state Assembly elections with a 48,000 majority. His path to the chief minister’s post caps a long career serving as the Party’s General Secretary in Rajasthan across four terms.

Oath ceremony to take place on Sharma’s birthday

Interestingly, the swearing-in proceedings fall on the same date Sharma came into the world 56 years ago.

Ahead of the ceremony, the MLA also took to X to share welcome messages for PM Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and Nadda, among others.

"Hearty welcome and congratulations to the popular, world's popular leader, respected Prime Minister of the country, respected Shri Narendra Modi on his arrival in Jaipur, the city of Govind Dev ji. Today all the people of the state are happy, excited and happy with the arrival of our Prime Minister," the Rajasthan Chief Minister-designate tweeted.

He shared similar messages on X for Amit Shah and JP Nadda's arrival in Jaipur as well.

BJP Rajasthan pours in birthday wishes

On the occasion of Sharma’s birthday, BJP Rajasthan also took to X to wish him, saying, "Happy birthday to Rajasthan BJP Legislature Party leader Shri Bhajan Lal. We wish you good health and a successful life," the post read.

Bhajan Lal Sharma retweeted the post, thanking his party for the "birthday blessings."

What are security measures taken ahead of oath ceremony?

Elaborate preparations have been underway to host the high-profile event amid tight security. Roads into the city feature banners showcasing BJP welfare schemes and leader portraits.

The incoming Chief Minister offers intimate knowledge of local dynamics from his deep roots across Rajasthan’s communities. This played a key role in mobilising the thumping 115-seat election triumph for the Party last week.

What are people's expectations from new Rajasthan CM?

Sharma now faces high expectations from the electorate to deliver a stable government after a period of instability under the previous Congress administration.

His deputies Kumari and Bairwa will provide an indigenous perspective from their constituencies spanning opposite ends of the socially diverse state.

As the saffron turbans are ceremonially tied before crowds of well-wishers today, Rajasthan will hope this marks the start of a defining new governance era under Sharma’s guidance.
