BJP has suffered a major setback in the by-election on Karanpur assembly seat of Sriganganagar district in Rajasthan. BJP candidate Surendra Pal Singh has lost the elections. The surprising thing is that even before this by-election, BJP had made TT a minister in the Bhajan Lal cabinet. Therefore, a lot was at stake for BJP in this election. Congress candidate Rupinder Singh Kooner has defeated Surendra Pal TT by more than 12,000 votes.

As soon as the results came out, the former chief minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, tweeted, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Congress candidate Shri Rupinder Singh Kunnar for his victory in Srikaranpur. This victory itself. Gurmeet Singh is dedicated to the public service works of Kunnar. The people of Srikaranpur have defeated the pride of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The public has taught a lesson to the BJP, which flouted the code of conduct and morality by making its candidate a minister during the elections.”

It is to be noted here that voting was postponed in the constituency due to the death of Congress candidate then. After that by-election was announced. Congress had fielded Kooner's son Rupinder Singh from this seat.

Surendra Pal TT had taken oath as minister on December 30 in Rajasthan cabinet. Then, Surendra Pal Singh TT was made Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Bhajanlal government. He took the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhavan in Jaipur.
