Raghav Chadha, spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party and a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab, accused the government with a blistering remark. It was underwhelming as he said the nation’s democracy foundation is being misused by the central agencies. He said whichever opposition party the gogovernment feels is strong enough, they send CBI or ED for interrogation and arrest their leaders and send them to jail.

Earlier today, nine prominent political parties lashed at the use of CBI and ED against those in opposition, in a written letter. Four current Chief Ministers, one Deputy Chief Minister and four various Chief Ministers of different states who are among those who have duly signed the letter, agreeing to the same.

Raghav Chadha said that with the help of this letter they all have made this clear to the government that they will no longer be silent on the misuse of the agencies. This is deeply concerning and does not forebode well for democracy. He further added that the letter to the Prime Minister that opposition has written expresses great concern over the discoloration of the agencies in front of the people of the country and asked him to stop the use of such agencies as weapons to settle the political differences.

Radhav Chadha also added that the government is misusing the agencies and trying to destroy the opposition parties. “CBI and ED is being used only on the leaders of opposition parties. In fact, 95 percent of the cases registered by the CBI are against opposition leaders. This politicisation of enforcement agencies is a threat to democracy,” he said.

He further added that during the rule of the previous government only 112 raids were conducted by the Enforcement Directorate. However, this government has conducted 3000 raids against opposition parties. Notably, the conviction rate in the cases filed by the ED is only 0.5 percent. This clearly indicates that ED is more focused in motivating pre-trail arrests than investigation of the cases.

Here, Raghav Chadha also questioned the behaviour of the Governor’s office controlled by the current govt saying that they are intervening in the operations of our government in the state. This is unacceptable in democracy, he said.
