Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab on Friday reviewed the progress of the ongoing ‘special girdawari’ in the state. The chief minister in his statement said that their government will make sure that the relief funds are being provided to the flood-hits. He also said that there was no dearth of funds with the government for the purpose.

The chief minister further added that he himself has taken the information by visiting the marooned areas of the state and will make sure that every one would get compensation of the losses of crop, cattle, house or anything.

CM also directed the officials to make sure that ‘girdawari’ gets completed by August 15, so it can be processed at the earliest. According to the information, more that 1,495 villages in 19 districts of Punjab have been affected badly by floods and according to the reports, at least 44 people have lost their lives, while 22 got injured. The flood due to heavy rains in the area has damaged 391 houses completely, while 878 have partially got damaged.

What is Girdawari in India?

The recording of Girdawaris in respect of agricultural land to show its crop cultivation and the person cultivating it is carried out by the field staff of the revenue department twice a year in the months of March/April and October/ November for the Rabi and Kharif crops respectively.

Meanwhile, Mann has also directed the administration look into the cases of dengue and ensure all possible steps to prevent dengue and other diseases in the aftermath of floods.
