The Punjab and Haryana Court has extended the stay on Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) polls till September 25.

Earlier on August 11, a bench of Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj had stayed the polls till the next dat og hearing, which was scheduled for August 28.

The WFI polls were supposed to be held on August 12, but the Punjab and Haryana High Court, acting on a petition filed by Haryana Wrestling Association (HWA), had on August 11 stayed this election. Notably, it challenged the order dated July 25 passed by respondent, Wrestling Federation’s returning officer, where the petitioner’s claim for exclusion of representatives nominated by the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association for the federation’s electoral college in the elections was rejected.

Meanwhile, the HWA counsel reiterated that the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association, which is not being affiliated, could not be permitted to represent the State Wrestling Association in violation of the federation’s constitution.

According to the Haryana Olympic Association, the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association was not affiliated with it.

Apart from it, a Senior counsel appearing on WFI’s behalf contended that an ad-hoc committee was constituted by it to conduct fresh WFI elections and run the day-to-day affairs of the Haryana Wrestling Association.

The committee notified the election schedule and the same was held pursuant to it.
