The man who brutally murdered his own 16-year-old daughter, and then dragged her lifeless body tied to a bike on the road before dumping it on railway tracks on Thursday in Punjab’s Amritsar district has been arrested by police, officials and media reports said.

The accused was reportedly arrested by the police on Friday, media reports said.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused took this heinous step because he doubted his daughter’s character. However, the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be determined by the police.

The victim had reportedly left her home for two days, and when she returned, her father attacked her with sharp weapons, resulting in her death, police officials said.

Amritsar daughter killer confined, threatened family in house

In the aftermath of the incident, it was reported that the accused had confined his own family members within their residence, issuing threats to their lives as well.

“We also received information that the accused confined his family members at home and threatened to kill them as well. Due to fear, they couldn’t leave the house,” a police officer told the news outlet India Today.

“My granddaughter had left home and she came back on her own. When she returned, her father fumed and he killed her,” the victim’s grandmother told reporters.
