Amid the Sanatan Dharma row, now Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has raised serious questions over the absence of President Droupadi Murmu in the inauguration of India’s new Parliament building. He said that President Murmu was not invited to the ceremony on account of her being a widow and hailing from the tribal community. This is what we call ‘Sanatan Dharma,’ he said.

Udhayanidhi Stalin raises questions over not inviting President Murmu

Moreover, Udhayanidhi Stalin has highlighted that the new Parliament building, constructed at a cost of ₹800 crore, was a monumental project. However, despite being India’s first citizen, President Murmu was not extended an invitation.

The DMK leader attributed this omission to her tribal background and her status as a widow, suggesting that it was influenced by concerns related to Sanatan Dharma.

Is this Sanatan Dharma?

Addressing an event in Madurai, Stalin said, “The new Parliament building was inaugurated. They (BJP) got the Adheenams from Tamil Nadu for the inauguration, but the President of India was not invited because she is a widow and is from the tribal community. Is this Sanatan Dharma? We will continue to raise our voice against it.”

Further, the Tamil Nadu minister has also pointed out that even when the women’s reservation bill was introduced in Parliament, Hindi actresses were invited, while the President remained excluded due to her personal circumstances. The DMK leader claimed that these incidents were indicative of the impact of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ on such decisions.

Speaking about the controversy following his initial remarks on ‘Sanatan Dharma,’ Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “People fixed the rate for my head. I will never be bothered about such things. DMK was founded on the principles of eradicating Sanatanam, and we will not rest until we are done with our goal.”
