Police official shot dead by militants in Manipur

The incident in Manipur has been reported days after members of civil society organisations demanded the removal of the security forces from the border areas.

A police officer has been shot dead by militants in Manipur. According to the reports, the incident took place when Moreh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chingtham Anand was on a round of inspection to a newly constructed helipad at the Eastern ground in the border town.

The incident happened at Manipur’s Moreh. Soon after the incident, the SDPO Anand was taken to the Moreh primary health centre where he succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, the police have also launched a search operation to apprehend the militants. 

Manipur CM Biren on killing

Taking it to his X account, the chief minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh condoled the death of the officer and termed it, ‘cold-blooded killing’.

“Deeply saddened by the cold-blooded killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand, OC Moreh Police this morning,” Singh wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “His dedication to serve and protect the people will always be remembered. The perpetrators will be brought to justice.”

According to the sources, the incident has been reported days after members of civil society organisations demanded the removal of the security forces from the border areas. 

It is to be noted here that Manipur has been witnessing violence since May 3, where first the clashes broke out and has claimed several lives so far.
