Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attended the centenary celebrations of Delhi University. During his visit to Delhi University, he also laid the foundation stone of the computer centre and building of ‘Faculty of Training’.

Before heading to Delhi University, taking it to Twitter, he wrote “Looking forward to joining the University of Delhi‘s centenary celebrations at 11 AM tomorrow, 30th June. As a premier centre of learning, DU has been nurturing talent and fostering intellectual growth for a century. Congratulations to the DU fraternity on this milestone.”

For travelling to the venue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a metro ride from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station in the national capital on Friday morning to visit Delhi University to attend the centenary celebrations. During his ride in Delhi metro, PM Modi was also seen interacting with other passengers.

On Twitter, he mentioned, “On the way to the DU programme by the Delhi Metro. Happy to have youngsters as my co-passengers.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended the Valedictory Ceremony of the Centenary celebrations of Delhi University.

During the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid the foundation stone of Delhi University Computer Centre and the building of ‘Faculty of Technology’, and of the Academic Block of Delhi University.

PM Modi, while speaking at the valedictory centenary celebrations of Delhi University, said that the number of colleges under Delhi University have increased swiftly in past years. He added, “There was a time when Delhi University had just 3 colleges, now it has more than 90 colleges. There was a time when India used to come under the list of fragile economies and today it is among the top 5 economies in the world. Today the number of girls studying in DU is more than that of boys.”

Notably, the University of Delhi was established on 1st May 1922. In the last hundred years, the University now has 86 departments, 90 Colleges, more than 6 lakh students, and has contributed immensely in building the nation and taking it to new heights.
