Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in India on his first visit to India after assuming his office in last May. Today, ahead of India-Australia day 1 of test match, Australian PM Albanese visited the Gujarat Stadium with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Australian PM Albanese, today arrived at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which is largest stadium in the world. Here, he was welcomed by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both of them will watch the first hour’s play between India and Australia, the final test match of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Earlier, PM Modi arrived at the venue, where he was received by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi. Roger Binny, President of BCCI and Jay Shah who is the secretary of BCCI were also present at the felicitation. After welcoming the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, both the PMs took a round of the massive sports arena at the golf cart, before the start of the match between India and Australia.

Australian High Commissioner Barry O’Farrell said, “One of the things that bind both countries is cricket and it will be great to see the leaders of India and Australia on day one of the matches in Ahmedabad.”

Both of the PMs were welcomed by the loud cheers ahead of match in the stadium. PMs also handed over the test match caps to their respective team captains Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith. BBCI also shared the same via Twitter.

Australian PM Albanese, during his visit, on day 1, also participated in the Holi celebrations in Ahmedabad along with the chief minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel and Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat at Raj Bhawan in the Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He also visited the Sabarmati Ashram and paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Wednesday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel accompanied the Australian PM during his visit to Ashram. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “A true privilege to pay homage to Gandhi’s legacy at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.” Upon his arrival in India, Australian PM tweeted, “An incredible welcome to Ahmedabad, India. The beginning of an important trip for Australia-India relationship.”

Australian PM Anthony Albanese with colourful pictures of Holi celebrations with flowers and colours, also sared a tweet saying, “Honoured to celebrate Holi in Ahmedabad, India. Holi’s message of renewal through the triumph of good over evil is an enduring reminder for all of us.”

All about Narendra Modi Stadium

The Narendra Modi Stadium, was earlier known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, is a cricket stadium situated in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, India. It is the largest stadium in the world, with can hold the seating capacity of 132,000 spectators. The stadium is owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association and is a venue for Test, ODI, T20I, and Indian Premier League cricket matches. The stadium was built in 1983 and was first renovated in year 2006. In year 2015, the stadium was demolished for the reconstruction by February 2020, with an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. The stadium has also got the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest match attendees with 101,566 spectators during the finals of IPL in 2022.

The Gujarat Cricket Association renamed the venue the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 24, 2021, in honour of the current Indian prime minister and native of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, who also served as the state’s chief minister from year 2001 to 2014. India and England played there in the first-ever pink ball test match on February 24, 2021.

India-Australia Match:

Today team India is playing against Australia, after the win against New Zealand in the last match. The series consists of 4 test matches, which has been started on the 9th of February 2023.
